In Support of the
Dalit Freedom Network

During the 2008-2009 school year, Denver Christian Schools paid special attention to the plight of the Dalits in India by hosting a series of chapels at the Van Dellen and Highlands Ranch Campuses highlighting the Dalit Freedom Network, a ministry based in Denver. The high school campus displayed a powerful photo gallery of the lives of the Dalits in India, and many students and visitors were impacted by the compelling visuals that captured the discrimination, suffering and hope of this community that has been neglected for centuries.
DCS also organized a special chapel at the Denver Christian High School featuring Mr. Kumar Swami, regional director for DFN India, and by former DCS student and actress AnnaSophia Robb. The event was followed by a luncheon for local pastors interested in supporting this cause.

DCS Van Dellen teacher Lisa Gossman (below) organized a special drive among students in which they brought in their spare change over a period of several days. As a result, the students at Van Dellen were able to collect a total of $1,084.93 in support of the Dalits. Excellent job, Lisa! Excellent job, students! The humongous check was presented to an ecstatic Michelle Rosendahl (right), a local volunteer of the Dalit Freedom Network.

The students from the High School and the 7th and 8th graders from both Van Dellen and Highlands Ranch also wrote letters to members of the US Senate in Washington DC in support of House Concurrent Resolution 139, a formal document asking the Indian government to ban discrimination against the Dalits.
