Weather Plays Havoc with Crusader Sports The recent storm has caused many changes in the Denver Christian schedules for Oct. 29 - 31, 2009. Kent-Denver has generously offered to host both the football and soccer games scheduled for the weekend. The Kent-Denver vs. Denver Christian football game will be played at 11:00 am at Deso Stadium followed by the 1st round soccer playoff game which will match Denver Christian's Metro League champs facing Colorado Rocky Mountain School. Game time will be at 3:00 pm. Reminder: The soccer playoff games are sponsored by CHSAA and therefore Denver Christian season tickets, student passes, Metro League passes, etc. will not be honored. Admission to the soccer game on Saturday will be $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for students and seniors. The state cross country meet has also been postponed. The meet will be run next Saturday, Nov. 7 at Fossil Ridge High School in Ft. Collins. Boy’s Soccer Team Claims 2nd Straight League Title Denver Christian’s boy’s soccer team has won its second consecutive Metro League regular season title with two very exciting victories on Thursday and Friday of last week. On Thursday, the Crusaders defeated a very worthy opponent from Peak to Peak with a 3 – 1 win at Highlands Ranch Stadium. After an early Michael Vanden Berg breakaway goal, the Pumas tied the match with a long range answer of their own of the foot of Brady Wisott. The game remained deadlocked for more than 50 minutes when Brent Ham scored a spectacular goal in the 74th minute followed by another score from Vanden Berg after a great cross from Luke Monsma. On Friday the opponent was Colorado Academy where the game was contested on the Mustang’s campus. The only goal was scored in the 38th minute when Chris Pranger stuffed in a rebound after an extended attack on the Mustang keeper, Eric Hopfenbeck. Brent ham and Jesse Montavon were credited with assists on the goal. The match was an intense affair with both teams mounting occasional attacks on goal, only to be stifled by the opponent defense. The Pranger goal held up throughout the afternoon leading to the Crusader 1 – nil victory. The 3 – A playoffs begin this week with the 32 team bracket determined this weekend by the CHSAA Soccer Committee. The Crusaders will face a team from the Western Slope Conference: Colorado Rocky Mountain School from Carbondale. The playoffs are sponsored by CHSAA and that means that we are no longer able to accept Metro League Passes, Denver Christian athletic cards, or Denver Christian season tickets for admission to the game. All spectators will need to pay the admission established by CHSAA. Admission prices for the first and second round games will be $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for students and seniors. Denver Christian Cross Country - Fall 2009 News Denver Christian Cross Country athlete Ryan Poland has had a spectacular season this fall. Ryan won the Metro League championship two weeks ago with a very good time of 15:53 for the 5 kilometer course at Holy Family. And on Friday Ryan repeated his feat with a victory in the Region 6 race at Clements Park. Next up for the striding senior will be the state cross country race in Ft. Collins at Fossil Ridge High School. The 3-A division will run at noon on Saturday, Oct. 31. Ryan has known the victory tape several times this fall with wins at the “Pre-State” race in Ft. Collins, the Hawk Classic in Brighton, the Liberty Bell in Littleton (the biggest cross country race in the state each year.), and the Summit County 9100. Good luck to Ryan in the state meet this Saturday! 2nd Annual Speed Camp Scheduled The Denver Christian Athletic Department is excited to announce that the second annual speed and agility camp for Denver Christina athletes has been scheduled for this summer. This fall, the Acting Class is venturing into new territory: the wacky world of renowned children’s author Roald Dahl. Prepare for amazing and unexpected things to happen in our fall play, James and the Giant Peach! James, a 10-year-old orphan boy played by Thomas Naday, lives a cheerless, friendless existence with his two horrid old aunts, Aunt Spiker (Cole Hocking) and Aunt Sponge (Matt Newton). James’ encounter with a mysterious Old Woman (Olivia Birk) leads to the sudden appearance of an enormous peach in the aunts’ garden, and that is only the “first remarkable thing” that happens to James. When he crawls inside the peach, James meets an amazing ensemble of creatures: the Old, Green Grasshopper (Wesley Martin), Centipede (Sam Kok), Miss Spider (Jenna Flanders), Mrs. Ladybug (Molly Evensen), Earthworm (Francesco D’Alesio), Glowworm (Aubree Carter) and Silkworm (Rachel Ahern). You won’t want to miss the adventures of James and his new friends as they set off on a journey to a distant land. Performances will be given on Thursday and Friday, November 13 and 14 at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, November 15 at 4:00 pm.

Denver Christian Fall Athletic Awards
In addition, the high school soccer coaches association named the following for all-state recognition: Luke Monsma and Jesse Ham were named Honorable Mention, Colin Lanser and Jesse Montavon, 2nd Team All-State, and Brent Ham and Marcus Landhuis were named to the 1st Team of All-State Recognition.
Crusaders Advance in Playoffs
Jesse Montavon scored an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute of Saturday’s first round 3-A playoff game against upset minded Colorado Rocky Mountain School. Defense was the word of the day as the two teams battled on a snow narrowed field at DeSorrento Stadium at Kent Denver. The 3rd seeded men of Denver Christian gave up few chances on goal due to the strong defensive play of Marcus Landhuis, Colin Lanser, and Austin Herrema throughout the afternoon. The Crusader offense had many chances to score in the first half, but all efforts missed the netted target.
The Crusaders will take their next step on the playoff road against 14th seeded Lake County High School of Leadville Tuesday evening (Nov. 3rd) at Englewood High School Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:15. Please remember that CHSAA admission prices are in effect for this match; $5.00 and $4.00 (Students and Senior Citizens). Englewood High School is located at 3800 So. Logan St. in Englewood. Parking is available on the northwest side of the stadium site.
