DCS Background

Humble Origins

In April of 1916, a small group of Dutch immigrants founded what is known today as Denver Christian Schools.  They established a school of distinction based on a “three-legged stool” concept by which the child’s training at home and at the church would be complemented by the classroom. From a small building on Florida and Clarkson streets, Denver Christian Schools has now grown to cover three impressive campuses. New construction and renovation of our facilities has provided students with state-of-the-art, cheerful environments that promote a passion for learning. And while maintaining its Christ-centered focus, Denver Christian Schools has earned a solid reputation for excellence and is widely known for offering a high-quality Christian education. Originally founded to serve the needs of families from two Dutch churches, Denver Christian Schools has widely extended its services throughout the evangelical Christian community. Though still firmly rooted in its Reformed vision of life, Denver Christian Schools proudly and gratefully includes students from more than one-hundred-and-fifty congregations.

Governance

The Denver Christian School Society was formed in 1916 under an incorporation document called a "Constitution," at a time when not-for-profit organizations were called "Societies." Denver Christian Schools was selected as the name for the Society.  Consequently, membership today in the Denver Christian School Society is really membership in a not-for-profit corporation whose name is Denver Christian Schools.  Members in the Society are allowed and encouraged to vote in corporate governance matters reserved for members of non-profit corporations under Colorado law such as voting for trustees. There are currently 15 Trustees selected from the Society and elected by the Society. These Society members are entrusted with the privilege and obligation to steer Denver Christian Schools towards an ever-promising future.
